Mental wellbeing in a pandemic – how are you coping?

2020 has been quite a year – and it’s not finished yet! Life has changed in ways we could not have imagined at the start of it. I know I am not alone in feeling discouraged from time to time, and wondering what lies ahead, both on a personal level and for our business.
With so much uncertainty, it is very hard to plan ahead. It’s difficult to switch off from the constant stream of media coverage. So it’s not surprising that many of us are feeling anxious, stressed and concerned about the future.
I have found the following resources online and I hope that you find them useful. If you have found other resources or strategies that we could share with members, please let me know.
Ahead for Business – has been developed to help small business owners to take action on their own mental health and wellbeing.
Heads Up – is all about giving individuals and businesses the tools to create more mentally healthy workplaces.
Developed by Beyond Blue and supported by the Mentally Healthy Workplace AllianceHeads Up calls on business leaders to make a commitment and start taking action in their workplaces.
Beyond Blue – has created resources and a Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service.

Facebook members only page

Don’t forget that we have a members-only Facebook page.  We’d like you to join the conversation!
This group gives members the opportunity to contribute to discussions about key topics and at the same time allows the Board to quickly get feedback from members about important issues. This two-way communication means that we can better understand what issues members want us to take action on, and what form that action should take.

Meet the members – James Cracknell

What is your business and how did it start?

Our business is Windsong Travel in Bellingen, Sawtell and Inverell, and also Coffs Coast Travel. I started my business firstly in Inverell where I bought it from the owner …. I started in travel in 1990 after being an exchange student in Mexico (I wanted to keep travelling and explore the world).

How has the pandemic affected your business?

The pandemic has devastated our business, we currently have 19 staff on JobKeeper and no business. Also, we are having to refund our income from more than 12 months ago.

What would you like to see the Chamber doing?

I’d love to see the chamber be stronger and be actively involved in the vision of where we want to mould and steer Bellingen in the future
