Community support for funding to replace two timber bridges in Dorrigo and Thora

24 Jan

Please view the following email from Bellingen Shire Council regarding community support for funding to replace two timber bridges in Dorrigo and Thora.

Kind Regards,

Libby Park
President, Bellingen Chamber of Commerce

Good afternoon everyone,

Bellingen Shire Council is actively seeking additional funding from both State and Federal sources to supplement Council’s budget for the renewal and rehabilitation of our Shire’s bridge network. Under the current Bridges Renewal Program, Council will submit applications for funding for the following two bridges:

  • -Bielsdown Bridge, Coramba Road, Dorrigo
  • -Richardsons Bridge, Darkwood Road, Thora.

To assist Council in the application process, we are asking that members of the community, businesses and services provide us with their support through the completion of the following survey. You can also assist through the provision of a letter of support.  We would ask that, when completing the survey or writing a letter of support, the focus be upon the impact that a closure or load limitation would have upon you and/or your property/business. This could be taking kids to school, farming and commodity transport links, travel to work, shopping or appointments.

Every survey and letter of support received goes a long way to providing the evidence to justify to State and Federal governments the need to fund these worthwhile projects. While these specific bridges may not directly affect you, your support is appreciated.  Council has 80 bridges in its timber bridge network and it may be that, at some stage, it is your bridge that Council seeks funding for.

The survey can be found here: It should only take 5 mins to complete.

Letters should be addressed to the General Manager and emailed to or delivered to 33-39 Hyde Street Bellingen.

The survey will close at 4:30pm on Friday 1st February 2019. Letters of support should also be received by this date.

Council will continue to pursue funding to replace or rehabilitate its timber bridges right across the bridge network at every opportunity. Council is also advocating strongly to State and Federal Governments and will continue to do so.

Please pass on to anyone and everyone you think may be interested or affected. Thanking you in advance.
