North Coast Energy Forum

Friday, 25 November 2016 – Coffs Harbour

LAST CHANCE to see these Energy Experts

Forum is on next week! Secure your ticket hereThe North Coast Energy Forum is privileged to have some of Australia’s foremost energy experts coming to Coffs Harbour next Friday, 25 November. Don’t miss this one-off opportunity to get up to speed on the radical transformation happening in the energy sector in Australia and globally, and to have your say about what it means for this region.

Adam Marshall MP

We are privileged to have Mr Adam Marshall, Member for Northern Tablelands and Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW and Renewable Energy, opening the Forum. Adam will address the North Coast’s role in growing renewables in NSW. We anticipate he will also discuss the NSW Government’s bold new plan to make the state zero net emissions by 2050, and what our region will need to do to make that a reality.

Giles Parkinson

As the editor of RenewEconomy and a frequent commentator in other media outlets, Giles is Australia’s most prominent energy journalist. A frequent critic of the old energy industry and the governments and regulators that often support it at the expense of renewable technologies and local solutions, Giles’s address to the forum will focus on how rapidly the market is changing with the advent of affordable storage as well as solar, why predictions so often seem to underestimate the pace of change, and how we can learn to ride the wave of solar plus storage to reduce emissions and grow local economies.

Nicky Ison

Across the Northern Rivers communities, businesses and households are embracing the new energy future.  A future that is cleaner, more sustainable and more empowered.  However, this new energy future fits like a square peg in a round hole of the current energy system – its hard to do.  That’s why we need to change the rules of the game and to do that takes advocacy.

In her keynote talk Nicky Ison – the godmother of community owned renewable energy in Australia – will pull out the highlights of GetUp and Solar Citizen’s Homegrown Power Plan, a policy blueprint to transition Australia to 100% renewable energy.  Hear about:
  • Community Powerhouses the policy that would facilitate local energy enterprises,
  • Rule changes that would enable peer-to-peer energy and solar gardens, and
  • How you can help make these policies a reality through the NSW Advanced Energy Strategy consultation process.

Tosh Szatow

Tosh, co-founder of Energy for the People in Melbourne which helps local communities take control of their energy futures. He will workshop three micro-grid case studies, drawing on real world experience with Tyalgum (the town that wants to go off grid), Newstead (the town that wants to go to zero emission) and The Great Stupa (a new Buddhist community exploring the tradeoffs of grid connection with energy independence. All three projects take different approaches to solving the social and commercial challenges of transitioning to a solar powered microgrid, and offer practical insights to others seeking to developer their own unique solutions.

The full program is on the NCEF Website.

We look forward to seeing you there!
