Well as they say, “winners are grinners” and certainly there is lots to grin about this month.
First and foremost the Chamber is really happy to announce that Glen Wright of Bello Winter Music Festival has announced that he will be continuing into 2016 and has confirmed the dates as 7-10 July 2016. This is fantastic news as even with just one event in, this festival has every hallmark to be the biggest event on our annual calendar. The Chamber will now put the wheels into motion to engage with community groups and local businesses for the purpose of identifying issues for discussions, improvement and enduring success for all. The intent is to present coherent, structured and considered feedback for Glen well before planning for 2016 gets underway. More announcements shortly about that process of engagement and consultation, but in meantime don’t hesitate to contact others on the Chamber Board or myself if you have a burning need.
We also have some winners in our midst all of whom are Chamber members:
– Sue & Col Lennox of OzGreen have won a place in the Buckminster Fuller Challenge with OzGreen acknowledged by that international Institute as amongst the top 10% of change-makers globally. They fought challenges from 100’s of entries across 136 countries, so clearly a fantastic outcome for them and their team.
- Yvonne & Frank Wynen of Lily Pad Luxury Cabins took first prize for excellence in self-contained accommodation in the North Coast Tourism Awards. This is a great outcome as I know how hard they work not only with their own business, but also on a range of local community activities. Well done guys!
- Laura Duck and her team of therapists at Alchemy have scoped another prize picking up the Nature & Health Industry national clinic of the year award. Wow what fantastic recognition for the Alchemy team!
So if anyone was to doubt about the depth of talent, expertise & sheer professionalism of our local business people, then look no further than the external recognition we continue to receive.
Other things occupying the Chamber’s time is work progressing a new online / digital presence for all local businesses in the Shire. This is a 3 Chamber initiative (Bellingen, Dorrigo & Urunga) that recognizes the competitive and digital world we increasingly live in and the need to offer contemporary and effective online systems to enhance ‘business 2 business’ and ‘business 2 consumer’ communication and commerce. So pretty important regardless of the type of business you may run. In parallel with this we are investigating a online local market that looks at connecting business opportunities with local professionals – this is an system out of the Geelong region in Victoria that could improve the ability of our very talented local professionals being first in line for any business opportunities as they arise in the region – very important to drive sustainability for our local independent professional business people.
So as always lots on and as we move into the last quarter of 2015, the focus will be on our AGM and a few social networking events before we blink and its 2016!!
