As the cooler months settle in and some local business people take a well-earned break or just enjoy the more time to chat with customers and prepare for the end of the financial year and start planning for the next, the Chamber is continuing to do its best to keep the customer-traffic flowing.
First we have our hugely popular Crazy Day coming up on Saturday 18th June. Crazy Day is a perfect spring board for retailers wanting to have a sale or cafés trying something a little different, so be great to see our locals ‘shopping local’ and supporting those businesses who have come together to jointly promote shopping in Bello (and a big thanks to Ann & Cassandra at The Emporium for driving this landmark Chamber event and for the other businesses who have contributed to the marketing funds).
In July we have a special event about our local real estate market. On Thursday 21st July we have Daniel Bennett, Acting Manager, Land Use Services Bellingen Council, Nathan Cardow, Cardow & Partners, John Simon, Openhomeonline and Peter Stone, Real Estate of Distinction – so all bases covered on what is happening in our local property market. The Agents will provide their views on how they see the Bellingen real estate market (buying, selling, renting – residential & commercial) and Daniel will discuss issues Council sees such as current planning & zoning & changes they see looking into next 5+ years with sub-division, lot sizes, second dwelling regulations, allowable development, etc. This will be a late afternoon event (so great opportunity to network with other local businesses) so keep an eye out for details of this special event.
Looking further out for the year we have events planned around social media (how to leverage new & developing platforms), the digitized economy (how to capitalize to drive business), energy procurement (capture significant savings by collective buying) and 2017 training & development programs (how to tap into new training & employment government funded programs). PS we tried to host our ‘meet the candidates’ event for the upcoming election but alas even after significant encouragement could not get a commitment from all 3 major parties…disappointing….but with the late running decision by Rob Oakeshott maybe that will change….so we are on to it! PPS late breaking announcement, put Thurs 23rd June at approx 6pm in your diaries as think we have secured Rob Oakeshott and a number of the other candidates for a special Q&A style ‘meet the candidates’ event. More details to follow
And of course the Chamber is proud to continue with its sponsorship support with some great Festivals coming up, with Bello Winter Music on the 7-10 July, and the very popular Bellingen Music Festival on 22-25 September.
Readers of this Chamber update would know the Bellingen Chamber, working with the Dorrigo and Urunga Chambers, was successful in securing grant funds to develop an exciting new Bellingen Shire website and business directory. The purpose of the site will be to connect residents, business groups, visitors and community groups of the Shire. The site will act as a much-needed central hub for the region, a ‘one-stop shop’ of essential information and entertainment for all. As well as a shire-wide business directory, the site will incorporate an events hub (working with the site being launched by the Events Hub group), which will showcase the larger festivals and events. A ‘whats on this week’ page will ensure that every event, workshop, class or community ‘get-together’ is advertised. The website will also include local interest stories, interviews and profiles of local identities and businesses, short stories and poetry, local photography and much more. The content will be updated regularly so that information is correct, relevant and exciting. We hope to draw on the talents and skills of our local writers, storytellers and photographers to colour the site and trully make it our own.Launch is aimed for the next few months so stay tuned!
